Job Summary
The scheduler is responsible for all scheduling of surgeries/procedures performed at the request of physicians. The scheduler has accountability for maintaining and updating a schedule that accurately denotes procedures performed and physicians involved. The scheduler is also responsible for developing and maintaining open and positive communications with the outside medical facilities.

Coordinates procedure time between patient, physician and endoscopy center and/or hospital/outpatient surgery center.
Maintains calendar of surgery and procedure times; follows up with physician to resolve scheduling conflicts in a timely manner.
Pre-certifies procedures with insurance company. Faxes patient packets to surgical facilities, including histories and physicals and other doctor?s orders.
Keeps track of pending Histories and Physicals and scans patient packets.
Schedules dispensary patients.
Obtains necessary special equipment requested by physician for specific procedures.
Serves as a primary contact for the patient, provides pre- and post-procedure instructions and assists with patient inquiries.
Works proactively to ensure that all arrangements have been made to ensure a timely and orderly environment for each surgical procedure.
Follows up with all parties involved to communicate changes in schedule or place of surgery; works proactively to ensure that all changes are handled in an orderly fashion
Responsible for maintaining complete, accurate, and up-to-date scheduling records.
Maintains current physicians? schedules and ensures that cases are not scheduled when the physician is unavailable.
Assists with ?check-out? functions including future appointment scheduling and verifies all previously entered demographics.
Performs various administrative and clerical duties required to support these functions and, on an as-needed basis, may be required to perform other tasks.
Qualifications
HS Diploma/ GED required
At least 1 year of procedure/ surgery scheduling experience in a medical setting
