WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The purpose of this engaging and interactive role, operating as part of the 2nd line of defense function, is to provide challenge and oversight on Safety and Security risk to RBC. This involves supporting the 2nd Line of Defense governance model, by providing independent challenge to ensure that the Safety and Security Risk Profile is fairly presented in ongoing reporting including escalating to executive management and board as required. This also includes supporting the development of safety and security controls, and providing oversight against them. Providing an independent opinion on RBC's safety and security risk posture, developing Key Risk Indicators to measure and monitor Safety & Security Risk and contribute to the development of enterprise polices and standards governing global Safety and Security Risk. This role also provides provision of expertise, advice and counsel to executives and senior management to enhance their ability to anticipate and manage safety and security risk effectively.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Strategic Challenge and Oversight:
  • Provides challenge and oversight over enterprise wide safety and security risk and control through several core capabilities:
  • Leverage data driven insight to develop key risk indictors and/or to provide opinions and challenge on key risk indicators
  • Lead Scenario driven reviews to assess the controls effectiveness against key scenarios and/or provide insight and expertise into recommended controls
  • Review risk process outputs, self-identified risk issues and acceptances to ensure operations are within Risk Appetite
  • Provides expert advisory on RBC�s Corporate Security risk framework, policies, standards, and guidelines to a complex level and contribute to their development where appropriate
  • Support and/or conduct Operational Risk Event reviews related to Safety and Security
  • Actively challenge to ensure that the safety and security risk profile is balanced, comprehensive and a transparent reflection for the organization compared to risk appetite.
  • Contribute to the review and in some cases sign-off of safety and security risk assessments executed by the business including risk assessments, deep dive assessments, scenario analysis, and new change initiative assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with the 1st line Corporate Security team to imbed understanding of the safety and security risk profile and risk appetite into strategic decisioning with Senior Leadership at RBC; challenge executive decisioning that contradicts the risk profile and risk appetite.
  • Demonstrate a robust understanding of RBC�s global footprint and related safety and security risks. As well as a demonstrated understanding of current and emerging safety and security risk with a lens to the impact of digital risks on physical security to effectively challenge, identify, and advise on.
  • Governance, Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Provide oversight, analysis, and monitoring of safety and security risk globally
  • Develop and support the reporting of the safety and security risk profile, analysis and exposure to Executives and Senior Management on a regular basis. Reporting should include existing and emerging areas of risk, implications for operational risk appetite, and the ability of risk management and control infrastructure to support business activities.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and updates to key business stakeholders
  • Authority to request the business to conduct certain activities related to the safety and security risk assessments including new or revised assessments, establishing and/or reviews of risk appetite, etc.
  • Advisory:
  • Participate in the steering committee or associated governance/review activities on key initiatives, events, locations, and executive protection ensuring that existing and emerging safety and security risks are identified.
  • Support the development of an integrated safety and security strategy which incorporates physical and digital security risks drawing on industry best practices.
  • Develop and support the engagement model and associated interaction between stakeholders including Enterprise Operational Risk Management, and relevant Operational Risk Centers of Governance, etc.
  • Review and Support Safety and Security Risk Assessments:
  • Review and support the development of the assessment universe to ensure comprehensive coverage and determine a risk based approach to establish assessment frequency. Ensure adequate coverage for an end to end view that spans multiple locations, jurisdictions or safety/security risk concerns
  • Provide oversight and challenge for methodology in determination of the assessment universe and annual plan for periodic assessment to ensure risk based comprehensive coverage.
  • Through review of output and selected participation in safety and security risk assessments, provide oversight in execution methodology and challenge on conclusions on assessments.
  • Identify requirements for deep dives or lead deep dive assessments as required.
  • Relationships and Leadership:
  • Develop effective business and corporate security relationships with key stakeholders
  • Educate the 1st line on a balanced safety and security risk approach and risk acceptances
  • Proactively manage complex and sometimes competing relationships with key local, regional, and global stakeholders on a regular basis
  • Support the maturity of Safety and Safety risk as an embedded discipline across RBC.
  • Promote and nurture a risk aware culture.


WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED


Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience in physical security, executive protection, and/or safety and security oversight


Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong metrics and performance management background including data management and analysis
  • Exceptional leadership skills
  • Highly developed ability for conceptual thinking
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Well-developed impact and influence skills
  • Proven track record of building strong relationships across business functions in matrixed organizations
  • 7+ years� experience in the financial services sector with a deep understanding of safety and security risk in a Global Financial Institution preferred
  • Experience in Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Internal Audit, or Compliance preferred
  • Strategic mindset, with excellent knowledge and understanding of RBC businesses and organization preferred
Compensation
Starting base salary: $122,535 - $208,715 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
