About The Unit: The Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care is a clinical academic department at the University of Chicago.
Unit Job Summary: Physician Assistant: Provide healthcare and patient services that may include education, research, clinical nursing specialist support and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the physicians. Assist the anesthesiologist through organized instruction and supervised practice. Take patient histories, conduct examinations, diagnose illnesses, order and interpret laborato! ry tests, educate patients about disease in general terms, and! educate patients about anesthesia care and will be responsible for documenting such. Perform and document physical examinations according to government guidelines and personalize therapies. Order appropriate laboratory tests according to clinical diagnosis, clinical pathways and protocols. Arrange and order appropriate diagnostic studies for patients under the direction of the attending physician.
Unit Education: Graduate of a formal program of study as a Physician Assistant in a program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs required.
Board Certification by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants required.
Current Illinois licensure as a Physician Assistant required.
Current Illinois Controlled Substance License and a current DEA license required.
Unit Experience: Minimum one year experience in an inpatient/outpatient/surgical setting require! d.
Two years of experience in a related clinical area preferred.
Unit Job Function Competencies: Basic typing and computer skills required.
Knowledge and understanding of anesthesia types and specific patient care to such preferred.
