REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing plus graduation from an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesiology , usually an 18-24 month course. Must be certified as a Registered Nurse and as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the State where working.
Must possess and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Must be able to comprehend policies, patient records, physicianâs orders, procedures and guidelines.

DECISION MAKING LATITUDE
The position accomplishes ! function within established policies and procedures of Innovis Health and is expected to make care decisions within his/her scope of practice. The incumbent confers with the Chief CRNA on any unusual situations or problems.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Administers intravenous, spinal, and other anesthetics to render persons insensible to pain during surgical procedures, deliveries, or other medical and dental procedures.
2. Review schedule of cases assigned for each day and type of anesthesia prescribed for each. Takes necessary supplies and equipment to operating room and assembles equipment, such as syringes, and tubing. Assembles machine for administering gas and tests it to insure proper functioning. Positions patient (after checking for correct identification) on operating table according to established procedure for type of operation to be performed.
3. Studies physical findings of preoperational examination to determine probab! le effects of anesthetic on patient.
4. Administers preoperational medications prescribed by physician, if not already given.
5. Prepares prescribed solutions for intravenous injections.
6. Ascertains that blood of proper types is available for emergency use.
7. Takes patientâs blood pressure, respiration, and pulse.
8. Explains procedure to patient to secure cooperation and bolster confidence.
9. Fits mask to patientâs face and starts gas flow.
10. Maintains patient in surgical anesethetic state, adjusting oxygen and gas flow and keeping air tubes in position as necessary, or injects prescribed intravenous anesthetic.
11. Periodically takes patientâs blood pressure, respiration and pulse; and watches for significant physical changes, such as dilation of pupils and change in skin color.
12. Keeps surgeon informed of patientâs condition.
13. Takes necessary remedial action, such as aspiration of throat and administration of oxy! gen, to prevent asphyxiation, strangulation or surgical shock.
14. ! Records condition of patient prior to, during, and following administration of anesthetic and type of anesthetic used. In obstetrical cases, administers analgesic agent to minimize pain and administers anesthetic prior to delivery and for operative obstetrical cases.
15. Assists in moving patient from operating room to recovery room or floor.
16. Checks condition of patient periodically, and takes remedial measures to alleviate unfavorable postanesthesia effects.
17. Notifies physician when unfavorable symptoms develop.
18. Submits postoperative report on patientâs condition when effects of anesthetics have worn off.
19. Disassembles equipment and cleans work area or directs others to perform these functions. Removes supplies and accessories to supply room and cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment according to standard procedures.
20. Requisitions necessary repairs or adjustments to equipment.
21. Inventories supplies periodically and! orders replacements to maintain adequate stock of anesthetics, supplies and accessories.
22. Maintains records of each anesthetic administered. Prepares periodic reports relative to activities of section.
23. All other duties as directed under the policies and procedures of the institution and Anesthesia Department.
