The Fargo VA Health Care System is a Level 2
Medical Center and a member of Veterans Integrated Service Network 23.
This facility combines a 39 bed medical facility along with a 38 bed
Community Living Center providing transitional care, both accredited by the
Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Fargo also
has a Department of Veterans Affairs Benefits Office on campus,
offering veterans the unique opportunity to obtain health care, benefits
services, and Readjustment Counseling at one location. Due to the growing
veteran population in our service area, nine Community Based Outpatient
Clinics (CBOC) have been established with the tenth planned for opening in late
2013. The Fargo Health Care System provides a wide spectrum of primary
and tertiary acute and extended care inpatient and outpatient acti! vities in an
academic setting. The Fargo Health Care Syste! m has an active research
program and has a successful affiliation with the University of North Dakota
School of Medicine.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
Must pass pre-employment examination.

DUTIES:
The
anesthesiologist will be responsible for the performance and direct supervision of the
perioperative anesthetic care to patients, including preoperative anesthetic
administration and monitoring, and post-anesthesia care in compliance with
national accreditation standards.
Other responsibilities
include the management of problems in pain relief, management of problems in
card! iac and respiratory function, and provision of airway management in
emergency situations.
The anesthesiologist is responsible for seeing patients in consultation
in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Other duties include responding to patient telephone calls, informing
patients of test/lab results, renewing medication prescriptions, and giving
telephone or e-mail advice to other providers.
A
full range of clinical anesthesia capabilities is expected in addition to the
following administrative responsibilities:
participate in the development and implementation of program planning,
objectives, policies, and standards essential to the delivery of quality
anesthetic care.
He/she must meet
anesthesia-related documentation requirements set forth by the Joint Commission
and other regulatory agencies,
The
anesthesiologist will supervise and be a major resource for the nurse
anesthetists.
He/she will participate in
the medical ! education of medical students, surgical residents, and student
nurse anesthetists.
The anesthesiologist
will
assist in orientation of new staff.
The selected candidate should be board certified in Anesthesiology.
Work Schedule
: Monday - Friday, from 8:00am to 4:30pm, with on-call duties required, as necessary.
This is not a bargaining unit position.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREM
ENTS:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
D
egree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
Candidates who have held previous leadership, supervisory and/or ! administrative roles.
